Dairy giant Müller has appointed Hansjörg Herrmann as chief operating officer to oversee the Germany-based group’s global COO functions.

Herrmann started in the position on 1 December, a Müller spokesperson confirmed to just-food today (14 January). However, the spokesperson declined to comment on who was previously sitting in the COO seat but said the role had been vacant for some time.

Nevertheless, last May it was announced that Werner Stegmüller would become global chief executive of the owner of brands such as its namesake yogurts, Homann and Nadler to replace former CEO Uwe Sommer, who left the firm having joined in 2017.

At the time, a spokesperson told just-food that Stegmüller, before becoming CEO, had held the COO role since joining the company in June 2017. He officially became CEO in April last year.

Meanwhile, former Lindt & Sprungli executive Sommer had succeeded Ronald Kers, who became CEO in 2015 after himself being promoted from managing director of Müller’s businesses in the UK and Ireland. But Kers then left the firm last year to join UK poultry processor 2 Sisters Food Group.

Bavaria-based Müller is owned by German businessman Theo Müller.
