German dairy group Muller has confirmed it is planning on expanding production of its deli meats unit Homann.

The Dissen-based firm produces meat and sausages as well as gourmet salads, fish, remoulades, spreads, dressings and spicy sauces.

Following reports in local press suggesting Muller was on the lookout for new production premises after outgrowing the existing one in Dissen, a spokesperson for the company confirmed to just-food a new unit is one of the areas it is considering as part of a wider plan to “ensure that the business remains competitive and sustainable”.

“To this end we are carrying out an open ended analysis to identify further improvements in quality and efficiency, which includes the evaluation of a new manufacturing facility”.

He declined, however, to confirm whether the new site would replace the existing one or whether it would be an extension of it. He also declined to comment on what products that plant would produce.

“Since we are in the analysis phase, at this stage it is not possible to give detailed information,” he said.
