Nutrition bar maker Nellson has said it will replace its “ageing” Irwindale, California, production facility with a new US$40-50m plant to be located in the nearby city of Ontario, further east in the state.
“Our leadership team has been evaluating options for transforming our Irwindale facility into a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility to better serve the rapidly evolving needs of our customers. After months of review, we concluded this goal can be better accomplished by building an entirely new facility, rather than retrofitting the current location. In selecting the Ontario site, it was critically important to us that the new facility be within a short drive from the existing location as we want to retain our experienced workforce and all their bar-making expertise.” CEO Jamie Better said.
The company aims have the new facility fully operational by the first quarter of 2018.
Nellson said it wants to offer customers “unmatched” R&D expertise as well as up-to-date pricess and manufacturing innovations. The new 300,000 square foot facility offer “optimal” efficiency and increased capacity, as well as space to support future growth. It will include an R&D lab, segregated production lines and additional process capabilities for new product and packaging formats.
The group has two bar plants in Canada, as well as a powder facility in Anaheim, also in California.
