Nestle and Swedish probiotic group BioGaia have jointly launched a “growing up milk” containing BioGaia’s patented probiotic strain, Lactobacillus reuteri Protectis.
A spokesperson for Nestle told just-food: “The cooperation with BioGaia relates to the product NIDO, a growing up milk for children above 12 months.”
The roll out of the product started at the end of last year but the spokesperson said it “would be premature to make any further comments on our business plans”.
According to BioGaia, clinical studies support the claim that the product “could prevent infections” in children older than one year. The Swedish company said the product will “mainly be sold in emerging markets”.
