Swiss food giant Nestlé has opened a dedicated production line in Portugal to manufacture its new organic baby snacks called NutriPuffs.

NutriPuffs fall under the Zurich-listed firm’s NaturNes Bio brand and will be exported to 35 markets by the first quarter of next year, a Nestlé spokesperson told just-food. The facility in Avanca, a parish located in the municipality of Estarreja, has received EUR11m (US$12.1m) in investment for the new snacks line, which has the capacity to produce 80 packs a minute.

NutriPuffs cereals snacks are designed for toddlers aged eight to ten months and come in banana, raspberry, tomato and carrot varieties. All the ingredients are sourced locally.

Nestlé controls 40% of the organic baby food market in Portugal, the spokesperson confirmed, adding that the business as a whole turned over EUR500m last year and is expected to grow 3-4% in 2019.

Separately in Portugal, Nestlé is investing another EUR29m in its coffee plant in the city of Porto.
