Nestle has moved to “simplify” the ingredients used in North American frozen food brand Stouffer’s.

The company said its “kitchen cupboard commitment” would see it “shortening and simplifying” recipes and “only including ingredients consumers might find at home”.

Nestle insisted it would use ingredients “consumers trust and recognise” and would not use artificial flavours, colours or preservatives.

The programme would be rolled out “over the next few years”, Nestle added.

The world’s largest food maker has announced similar initiatives elsewhere in its business in North America in recent months.

In April, Nestle said it would remove artificial colours, flavours, high fructose corn syrup and GMO ingredients from six of its ice cream brands in the US.

Last June, the company said it would take out the artificial flavours and cut the salt from the pizzas and snacks it sells in the country.

And in February last year, Nestle announced plans to remove artificial flavours and colours from chocolate products sold in the US.
