Ahold today (12 January) announced consolidated net sales of EUR€10.8bn (US$13.1bn) for the fourth quarter of 2005.

Consolidated sales, excluding the impact of currency and a 53 week year in 2004, increased by 0.6% for the quarter in 2005. When these factors are taken out of the equation, fourth quarter sales growth stands at 0.5%, with the impact of the weaker US dollar being offset by this year’s fewer trading days.

Ahold generates approximately 70% of revenue in the US, where Stop & Shop / Giant-Landover Arena saw a sales increase of 3.6% to EUR€3.23bn while the Giant-Carlisle / Tops Arena saw a sales decline of 7.3%. Accounting for 30% of group sales, US Foodservice reported that sales were up by 3.4% to EUR€3.57bn.
