The chief executive of Dutch retail group Ahold has decided to leave the company, it was announced this morning (27 April).
Ahold said that president and CEO Anders Moberg will leave in July to “pursue other career interests”.
Ahold said that Moberg’s decision was taken in consultation with the company’s board. The board, Ahold said, “agreed that now is the right time for a change of leadership as the company moves into the next phase of its development”.
CFO John Rishton will take over as acting president and CEO with effect from 1 July, but will continue to act as CFO. Ahold is expected to make a permanent appointment later this year.
Moberg joined Ahold in 2003, when it was in the midst of a major accounting scandal. The prime force behind the company’s recovery programme, Moberg has been credited with putting the company back on an even keel, overseeing the sale of more than EUR3bn (US$4.1bn) of assets, cutting debt and costs and renovating stores.
