Dutch retail group Ahold has named a new president and CEO for its supermarket business in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
Ahold said this morning (26 May) that Jan van Dam would take control of the Albert/Hypernova unit on 10 August.
Last month, Ahold said it would close 21 loss-making Albert stores and one Hypernova hypermarket in the Czech Republic.
Van Dam will replace Johan Boeijenga who has decided to leave the company to pursue a career back in the Netherlands.
In 2008, the Albert/Hypernova business generated operating income of EUR1m (US$1.4m) on net sales of EUR1.8bn.
During the first quarter of 2009, net sales fell 3.9% to EUR491m. Identical-store sales were up 1%, or 2% excluding fuel.
