Ahold has kicked off the modernisation programme of its Albert Heijn supermarkets in the Netherlands.

Ahold has kicked off the modernisation programme of its Albert Heijn supermarkets in the Netherlands.

The retail giant told just-food today (23 June) that it plans to revamp its entire 750-strong estate of Albert Heijn stores and has lined up eighty outlets for the refurbishment this year.

A spokesperson for Albert Heijn said: “The cycle of a store lasts for seven years and it was time to think about a new concept.”

Ahold has no plans to revamp its other formats under the Albert Heijn banner, which include the XL hypermarkets and the convenience chain “AH to go”.
