Retail giant Ahold has named former Tesco executive Roy Perticucci to lead its e-commerce business in Europe.
Perticucci, who will take up the role in January, is replacing Tony Vendrig who has been overseeing e-commerce within Ahold Europe for the past two years. Ahold said it is keen to “achieve profitable growth by expanding in both existing and new markets”.
Former Tesco executive Perticucci grew the grocery home-shopping business from GBP150m (US$236.5m) to GBP1bn over five years. He has also worked for Tesco’s US arm Fresh & Easy.
Sander van der Laan, COO of Ahold’s European operations, said: “In the coming months, with him [Perticucci] at the helm, our newly-formed e-commerce team is going to be contributing significantly to our growth objectives.”
Vendrig will remain at at Ahold and develop the retailer’s “future value chain”, it said.
