Dairy cooperative Campina has agreed to sell its goat’s cheese business as part of its strategy to focus on dairy products made with cow’s milk.

Campina said today (5 November) that a venture between local goat farmers cooperative Amalthea and cheesemaker Kaasmakerij Van Dijk would take over the business.

Campina insisted the market for goat’s cheese is a “niche market and requires a specialised approach”.

Piet Hilarides, director of Campina’s cheese and butter business, said the sale was part of a strategy that had already seen the company sell its Belgian cheese business to Bongrain earlier this year.

He added: “Our member-farmers benefit from the best possible processing and sale of cow’s milk. This is where our strength and expertise lie. We are going to focus even further on the expansion of our leading international position in naturally matured semi-hard cheese.”
