Dutch animal feed giant Nutreco Holding revealed yesterday [Thursday] that its Chilean subsidiary Marine Harvest Chile has acquired a local salmon processing plant.

Marine Harvest Chile explained that its buyout of the processing operations of Chamiza-based Chisal SA is part of a bid to consolidate its position in the local market for the production and exportation of ready-to-cook and ready-to-eat salmon products to the US, Japan and other markets.

The operations involve about 300 Chisal employees and give Marine Harvest Chile the necessary processing capacity for fresh and frozen portion packs, smoked salmon and other value-added consumer products for large US retailers.
