The Hoogeveen-based dairy cooperative DOC Kaas has posted turnover worth €225m (US$220m) in 2001, up 24% year on year.

The firm said yesterday [Wednesday] that a 16% increase in milk production to 600 million kilograms and the increase of cheese and whey prices in 2001 were responsible for the growth.

The director of DOC Kaas, Jannes Oosterveld, cautioned however that the firm’s turnover could fall again in 2002 due to lower cheese prices.

According to Dagblad van het Noorden, the firm is currently investing €110m in a new production complex. It currently produces 55,000 tonnes of cheese per year.
