Dutch food group FrieslandCampina has announced plans to exclusively purchase sustainably produced palm oil from 2011.

The company announced yesterday (4 November) that it will only purchase palm oil certified according to the principles and criteria of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO).

The company said the move is a key part of its sustainability programme, route2020, which it announced in June 2010.

The announcement comes as the Dutch Product Board for Margarine, Fats and Oil also announced that all palm oil used in the country would be RSPO certified by the end of 2015, making it the first country to commit to using only sustainable palm oil.
