Norway’s Lerøy Seafood has acquired a controlling interest in Dutch seafood processor Rode Beheer.
Lerøy said yesterday (31 October) it had bought 50.1% of the company for EUR15m. Rode produces smoked, marinated and frozen products using Norwegian salmon. Lerøy said the company’s customer network of European grocery chains, as well as airline and other large-scale catering operations, will complement its strategy to develop its own global sales.
In 2010 Rode, which has 87 employees, had a turnover of EUR50.6m with an operating profit of EUR3.9m.
Lerøy said: “The decision to become the majority shareholder in Rode is an important step in the continued development of Lerøy Seafood Group’s market strategy aimed at concentrating on independent local units centrally placed in important seafood markets.
“With its central location, Rode is well suited as a supplier of high-quality seafood to customers in important markets such as the Benelux countries, Germany and France. The acquisition will also add a broader product range to our already established European sales and distribution network.”
