Dutch retailer Coop Supermarkten has reported a 7.5% increase in sales for 2013, driven, it said, by an extension of its store network.

The co-operative grocer said it had added 15 outlets to its store estate last year. It ended 2013 with 229 stores.

Turnover reached EURR975m, compared to EUR907m a year earlier.

Coop Supermarkten said it had converted half the 54 outlets it acquired from local rival Jumbo Supermarkten in 2012.

Jumbo agreed to sell the stores, plus 82 others to Ahold, the country’s largest grocer, as part of conditions Dutch competition authorities imposed on its acquisition of another Dutch retailer, C1000
