Royal Numico, a specialised nutrition company with leading positions in the baby food and clinical nutrition sectors, announced today (30 June) that the sale of its baby food activities in India to Wockhardt completes the integration of the Dumex business, acquired at the start of this year.
The acquisition included Dumex’s Indian interests, which, after consideration of its market position and investments needed to build a long-standing profitable business in India, Numico decided to sell.
Wockhardt, who acquired the Indian unit of Dumex for an undisclosed sum, is a listed pharmaceutical and biotechnology company based in Mumbai (India) with annual sales of over US$300m.
Numico’s baby food business in India was loss-making in the first quarter of 2006. The transaction will not have a material impact on Numico’s results.
