Dutch fruit and vegetable group Zon today (20 July) confirmed it is looking at ways to co-operate commercially with Spanish produce co-operative Unica.
Zon said the companies were looking at boosting the economic stability of both businesses and improving their service to growers and customers.
Zon and Unica sell and market fruit and vegetables on behalf of growers and supply direct to customers.
“We believe that through this Dutch-Spanish co-operation a more complete product offering can be offered to customers in the fruit and vegetable market,” said Zon director Frans Van Dyck.
Zon, which has 400 affiliated growers, generates annual turnover of EUR261m. Unica, which has 900 growers, makes EUR139m in revenues.
Both companies market products including peppers, cucumbers and watermelon.
Unica CEO Enrique de los Rios said: “By working together we can help our customers become more competitive and we can increase value to our growers.”
