Dutch retailer Super de Boer yesterday (15 September) reported a dip in third-quarter sales – although the company’s chief insisted he was “satisfied” with the results.

The group booked net sales of EUR368m (US$540.8m) for the 12 weeks to 5 September – down from EUR373m a year earlier.

Super de Boer said “consumer sales” stood at EUR470m – level with a year ago – but CEO Jan Brouwer pointed out the retailer was running nine fewer stores than in the third quarter of 2008.

“Average sales per store in the third quarter grew by 2.8%. Over the first three quarters of 2009, average weekly sales per store grew by 3.4%. Taking the current economic climate into consideration, we are satisfied with these results,” Brouwer said.
