Seed potatoes imported from the Netherlands into the UK have been found to carry potato rot.
The potatoes, contaminated with the serious bacterial infection Brown Rot, have been destroyed. The were discovered during routine annual survey checks on a farm in Lancashire.
The disease can reduce yields by as much as 50%, but if infected potatoes enter the food chain, they will not harm human health.
Potatoes are not being moved on or off the affected farm, and all related stock is being traced.
