US dairy cooperative Land O’Lakes has promoted Bill Pieper to chief financial officer and senior vice-president effective 1 May.
Pieper, who joined Land O’Lakes in 2005 as vice-president, finance and accounting for Purina, will succeed Dan Knutson, who is to retire.
In his new role, Pieper will report directly to president and CEO Chris Policinski.
Policinski said: “Bill brings deep financial experience both within our farmer-owned cooperative and across related industries, and we are pleased to have him assume the CFO role. Bill’s strategic financial management mindset has and will continue to support Land O’Lakes’ strong growth trajectory.”
Land O’Lakes reported a “record year” for earnings in March, which it attributed to its “marketplace back” approach.
Meanwhile, the cooperative said it had acquired local peer Vermont Creamery for an undisclosed sum. Vermont Creamery will become an independently operated subsidiary of Land O’Lakes and continue to produce fresh and aged goat cheeses, cultured butter and fresh dairy at its creamery in Websterville.
