Responding to reports that the company is facing difficulties in some of its Central and Eastern European markets, Orkla Foods told just-food that it has no plans to exit Poland, the Czech Republic of Romania.

According to recent reports, the group’s Kotlin and Elbro businesses in Poland, Guseppe in the Czech Republic and Orkla Foods Romania have reported declining sales and profits in 2007. This, it has been suggested, could lead the company to scale-back its presence in Eastern and Central Europe.

“I can’t confirm that we are scaling back and we have no plans to withdraw from these markets,” Orkla Foods director Håkon Mageli told just-food today (9 April).

“We did sell our Superfish business in Poland last year, but that is it,” Mageli concluded.
