The CEO of Rieber & Søn has announced he will leave the Norway-based food maker because of family pressures, it was announced today (23 November).

Patrik Andersson, who was appointed CEO in August 2008, has agreed with the Rieber & Søn board that he will step down by next summer at the latest.

“For almost eight years I have been commuting weekly [and] for the last three and a half years to Rieber & Søn in Bergen. This is a demanding situation for the family”, he said.

Andersson joined the food manufacturer to head the efficiency programme “Our Future”, which aimed to sell units outside the company’s core operations and is forecast to be finished by the end of this year.

“The group will start on a new strategy period extending to the end of 2015. This is therefore an appropriate time for a change of CEO,” he added.

Chairman Helge Midttun said the board was satisfied with Andersson’s results. “Our Future has resulted in great savings for the group, with lasting effects, within purchasing and production. The programme has progressed as planned,” he said.

The company says it will be taking immediate steps to find a new CEO.

Last month, Rieber & Søn reported a drop in third-quarter profits and earnings per share, blaming high raw material prices for a “weaker than expected” performance.
