Norwegian dairy group Tine has opened the “largest dairy” in the country, where it will consolidate production from four other sites.
The new NOK1.62m facility, located in Jæren, has a production capacity of 200m litres of milk a year and will manufacture a variety of products, including Jarlsberg, Gouda, Mozzarella, butter, Brelett, Prim and powder products.
Announcing the opening, Tine revealed the facility will replace dairies in Kleppe, Voll, Nærbø and Vikeså.
“The development is an effort to develop a future-oriented and competitive industry in an increasingly tough market. A high-tech dairy gives us the necessary efficiency and flexibility, while we can play even more in tune with the environment,” Tine CEO Stein Øiom said.
The facility will reduce Tine’s energy use by 34% and CO2 emissions reduced by 38%, the group said.
