Fonterra has confirmed that it will cease cheese production at its Longburn manufacturing facility, in Palmerston North, New Zealand.
Cheese production at Longburn was “no longer a viable option”, a spokesperson for the New Zealand food group said.

The company said that 35 employees would be affected, 15 of whom will be offered alternative employment at the Longburn site, the spokesperson said.
Currently approximately 114 people are employed at Longburn. The site will continue to store, transport and process milk products.
