Pastas Gallo, a major supplier in Spain of pasta, sauces and noodles that has recently been taken over, has named a former company executive as its new CEO.

The company, acquired by Spanish private-equity firm ProA Capital earlier this year, has appointed Fernando Fernández Soriano to take the helm.

Fernández Soriano joins from another Spain-based food manufacturer, GBfoods, but he is a Pastas Gallo veteran, having worked at the business between 1998 and 2013. From 1998 to 2003, Fernández Soriano was Pastas Gallo’s marketing director. For the next decade, he was commercial and marketing director. For the last six years, he was general manager of GBfoods’ Spanish arm.

Another GBfoods executive, commercial director Josep Peiró, is also set to join Pastas Gallo, taking the same role at the business.

ProA Capital’s move for the business was approved by Spanish competition authorities in September.

Gallo, which had a consolidated turnover in 2018 of more than EUR200m (US$222.9m), was founded in 1946 by José Espona Bañarés, who led the business until 1997. The second generation of the family has been in charge of the company for more than 20 years.
