Pablito G. Gemarino, provincial manager of the National Food Authority (NFA), has appealed to consumers to report retailers who overprice their rice.

The cost of rice has remained stable and should be within the reach of poor people, says the NFA, which sells the commodity through its Rolling Stores chain at between P14 (US$0.27) and P16 a kilo.

Rolling Stores also sell basic commodities such as sugar, milk, coffee and noodles at affordable prices to people in rural areas most affected by the struggling coconut industry.
