Carrefour is to spend EUR100m (US$146m) in Poland this year as it moves into the country’s fledgling convenience sector.
The French retail giant, which runs 334 stores in Poland, plans to open 36 stores across three formats this year.
The company told just-food today (18 January) that among the openings will be 20 convenience stores under franchise agreements with local operators.
Carrefour is looking to add six hypermarkets to the 74 it has in Poland, while it wants to increase its supermarket business from 270 outlets to 280 stores.
