Poland’s competition watchdog has given the green light to Carrefour’s acquisition of Ahold’s local operations.

The deal, which will make Carrefour Poland’s number two food retailer, is dependent on the French company selling off nine stores in the country. Carrefour said today (29 June) that it has agreed to the condition.

The acquisition will bring Carrefour’s network in Poland to almost 330 stores, with a combined annual revenue of EUR2m (US$2.7m).

Carrefour and Ahold expect to close the transaction within the next seven days, the French company added.
