Polish supermarket and retail chain Eldorado has forecast a rise in 2002 sales to PlZ727m (US$173.8m) from PlZ571m in 2001.

Net profits are expected to climb from PlZ4.5m to PlZ10m. The group said the reported fall in net profits last year was attributed largely to the cancellation of one major contract which had generated nearly 30% of revenues. Depressed margins and expenses associated with launching a logistics centre in Lublin also held back profits.

This year the group expects to open 10-12 new Stokrotka supermarkets to expand its currently 16-strong network. Meanwhile, the Groszek retail stores will rise in number from 153 to 250, while the eHurtownia and eProducer e-commerce operations will also continue to expand, reported the Polish News Bulletin
