Nordic food group Orkla Foods is selling its stake in Superfish, one of Poland’s leading fish companies.

Orkla said today (14 September) that it has agreed to sell the business to Poland-listed Graal, which already operates in the fish sector. Financial details were not disclosed.

Orkla bought Superfish in 2000 but, despite a restructuring of the business, said it was “not satisfied” with its performance.

“We therefore believe that a new owner who already has substantial operations in this category can help to enhance the company’s future possibilities on the Polish market,” said Orkla MD Uwe Birkkjær. “Orkla Foods considered it important to find a buyer who takes the company further.”

Superfish has two sites in northern Poland and generated sales of NOK250m (US$44.3m) in 2006.
