Belgian soy foods-to-frozen bakery firm The Vandemoortele Group has bought Polish frozen bakery business Gourmand Poland.
Vandemoortele, Belgium’s largest privately-owned food group, struck a deal with Gourmand Poland’s owner, Group Dossche. Financial details were undisclosed.
“Gourmand Poland offers the Vandemoortele Group accelerated access to the Polish market,” said Eddy de Mûelenaere, MD of the company’s lipids and dough division.
“After the Czech Republic, where Vandemoortele already is a prominent player, Poland will be the second country in central Europe where we want to strengthen our market position in frozen bakery products.”
Gourmand Poland generates sales of EUR3m (US$4m) in Poland and elsewhere in central Europe, selling a range of frozen bread, frozen puff pastries, Viennese pastries and snacks.
