Carrefour has remained silent on reports that the group is preparing to sell its hypermarket operations in Portugal.
“We are unable to comment on this matter,” a spokesperson for the retailer told just-food today (13 June). “We are currently focusing our international business to concentrate on markets with the best growth opportunities.”
Carrefour operates 12 hypermarkets in Portugal and generated revenues of about EUR530m (US$704.27m) last year.
According to a report by Portugal’s Lusa news agency, an international investment group is studying a proposal to acquire the Portuguese operations of the world’s second largest retailer.
