Discount retailer Lidl is to build a EUR25m (US$31.2m) logistics centre in Portugal.
A spokesperson for Lidl told just-food today (26 June) the facility, located in Agueda in the north-west of Portugal, will supply the retailer’s supermarkets in the central region of the country.
Construction on the 100,000 sq ft facility is expected to start next year, with the infrastructure already in place, the spokesperson said. The factory will be built in Casarão business park.
The factory is expected to create around 250 jobs.
Lidl opened its first stores in Portugal in 1995 and now operates around 200 stores in the country. The company also operates four logistic centres in Portugal.
