
Premier Foods plc, the UK grocery supplier, has named Keith Hamill as the non-executive chairman designate to replace David Beever, who is stepping down from the board after nine years and five years as chair.
Hamill is a non-executive director of EasyJet plc and Samsonite International. He was previously chairman of Travelodge, Tullett Prebon, Moss Bros, Collins Stewart, Go and Avant Homes. Earlier in his career, he was a partner at PwC and was group finance director of Forte plc and WHSmith Group.
The company said today (9 August) that Hamill will join the Premier board on 1 October and assume the role of chairman from 9 November. With headquarters in St. Albans, north of London, Premier’s brands as Oxo stock cubes, Loyd Grossman sauces, Homepride flour and Mr Kipling’s cakes.
Premier Foods’ senior independent non-executive director, Ian Krieger, said: “Keith’s background in consumer-facing businesses, in addition to his breadth of experience as a chairman and non-executive director, will be invaluable as we continue to focus on our strategic objectives.”
Listed on the London Stock Exchange, the company will report results for the six months through September on 15 November, after booking a 3.1% decline in first-quarter revenue. That drop was attributed to declining sales of its UK grocery brands, although the performance was offset by growth in its sweet treats and non-branded items businesses.
The shares were trading at 39.64p as of 08:40 BST, down from 40.25p at the open.
