Premier Foods’ senior independent non-executive director, Ian Krieger, said: “Keith’s background in consumer-facing businesses, in addition to his breadth of experience as a chairman and non-executive director, will be invaluable as we continue to focus on our strategic objectives.”

Listed on the London Stock Exchange, the company will report results for the six months through September on 15 November, after booking a 3.1% decline in first-quarter revenue. That drop was attributed to declining sales of its UK grocery brands, although the performance was offset by growth in its sweet treats and non-branded items businesses.

The shares were trading at 39.64p as of 08:40 BST, down from 40.25p at the open.
