Propercorn is launching a new nut flavoured gluten-free popcorn this month in a move that the company hopes will help it more than double revenues this year.

The company said it is attempting to “tap into [the emerging] nut trend” and target “the increasingly health conscious shopper” in the UK with the rollout of smooth peanut and almond flavoured popcorn.

Propercorn generated sales of GBP5.5m (US$8.49m) in 2014 and the company said it hopes that the new product launch will contribute towards its target of hitting over GBP12m in revenue this year.

“Nuts have never been more popular… As we look for ways to eat more naturally, we increasingly find wonderful, nutritious ingredients like almonds being used in milk, butters, oils and now in popcorn,” said co-founder, Cassandra Stavrou.

Each serving of the new smooth peanut and almond popcorn contains 120kcals, us gluten-free, contains “100% natural” ingredients and is suitable for vegetarians, the company revealed. Single serve and sharing packs are being rolled out with an RRP of GBP0.90 and GBP1.69 respectively.

The products will first be available on the company's website and via Ocado. The popcorn will then rolled out to other retailers throughout the UK, a spokesperson for the company told just-food. “The new flavour will be filtering into shops over the coming months but is currently available on our website (, and will be available from Ocado later this week or the next, Whole Foods and Planet Organic in October and supermarkets nationwide over the coming months.”
