Carrefour has struck a deal to buy regional Romanian supermarket chain Artima for EUR55m (US$79.3m).
The deal sees the French retail giant move into the supermarket channel in Romania, where it already operates eight hypermarkets.
Artima runs 21 stores in western Romania, generating some EUR75m in annual sales. The company has forecast turnover of EUR95m this year.
Last month, Carrefour extended its distribution network in Romania with a deal at southern Europe’s largest logistics site, Cefin Logistics Park.
