German discount retailer Lidl has told just-food that it is looking to grow its store network in Romania.
Lidl, which has 135 stores in Romania, is building a third logistics centre in the country and a spokesperson confirmed the retailer is looking at opening more outlets.
“Proximity to our customers is very important to us. For this reason it is in our interest to buy, to rent or to lease attractive properties,” the spokesperson said.
Local reports this week suggested Lidl was planning to open 66 more stores by the end of 2012. However, the spokesperson declined to comment on specific numbers or financial details of any investment.
Last month, Lidl announced plans to open 15 stores throughout Bulgaria by the end of the year. The German discounter has 50 stores in the country.
