Romanian retailer Mega Image is planning to focus its expansion efforts on Bucharest in 2009, when it will open an additional eight stores.

“Mega Image… plans to expand its network with eight more stores in 2009, reaching the target of 48 stores at the end of the year. Our focus will continue to be Bucharest,” a spokesperson for the Romanian supermarket group told just-food today (3 December).

Mega Image, which is controlled by Belgian retail group Delhaize, currently operates 35 stores in Bucharest.

In September, the group completed the acquisition of 14 La Fourmi supermarkets for EUR18.6m (US$23.5m). Mega Image also plans to have completed the rebranding and integration of these outlets into the Mega Image network by the end of 2009.
