Romania’s competition authority has approved the takeover of local food business Via-Trend by Swedish holding company Celox.
In its ruling, the Competition Council said the previously-announced transaction “did not raise any obstacles significant in the way of effective competition on the Romanian market or on a substantial part of and there are no serious doubts as to its compatibility with a competitive environment”.
Stockholm-based Celox Holding owns 21 businesses in areas as varied as construction materials and management consulting but has not majorly focused on food businesses until now. Its main area of activity thus far has been in building up a portfolio of financial services companies. It is ultimately wholly-owned and controlled by the charitable Jonas and Christina af Jochnick Foundation.
Celox is taking over Via-Trend through a newly established company, Via-Trend Ready Meals.
Established in 2005, Via-Trend, based in Moara Domneasca, sells its ready-meals under the brand Daniela’s. Its range includes casseroles, grilled steaks, meatballs and chicken schnitzel.
