Russia has extended the ban on Western food imports for a year.
It was expected that the ban on food items from the US, EU, Australia, Canada and Norway would be prolonged for six months starting early August after the EU extended sanctions on Russia this week.
Russian President Vladimir Putin told a meeting of government members he had signed the necessary order.
"As the Prime Minister proposed, we are extending these measures for a year starting from today. I think that this will be a good opportunity for our farmers too," said Putin in comments released by the Kremlin.
