Russian meat processor Cherkizovo has opened the first line at its poultry breeding facility at its Bryansk site.

The firm said today (4 April) it has launched the first line of the breeding facility, Pervomaiskaya, in the Bryansk region. The new line is part of the poultry capacity increase project first announced by Cherkizovo in 2010.

The line comprises 28 bird houses, with a combined capacity of around 1m broilers. A second line consisting of an additional 28 bird houses is expected to be launched in August.

Once completed, the annual production capacity will equal 2m broilers or 26,000 tonnes of live-weight poultry, the company said.

In 2011 the production capacity of the Bryansk poultry cluster was in excess of 55,000 tonnes of live weight poultry. As a result of the newly-constructed production sites, capacity will increase to 71,000 tonnes of live weight poultry this year.
