Russian grocery chain Dixy plans to open at least 100 stores in 2010, according to the company’s top manager.

Fedor Rybasov, Dixy’s vice-president, said that most of the of new stores will be opened through lease agreements. 
 
In addition, Dixy will continue to optimise its portfolio, with some closures expcted.

“In 2010 Dixy may close 15-20 unprofitable stores mainly in the Ural and Yaroslavl regions,” Rybasov added. 

The company said that it will focus on developing its flagship Dixy format. The company’s stores under the Megamart brand are only opened in the Urals and even then no more than one or two outlets per year.

Rybasov also said that in 2010 Dixy is planning to increase its sales by about 20%.
