Russian retailer Dixy Group has booked a jump in first-quarter sales as existing customers increased their spend-per-basket and the company opened a swathe of new stores.

The food retailer said today (26 April) that sales in the first three months of the year rose 20.8%, climbing to RUB18.1bn (US$605.1m).

During the first quarter of this year, Dixy said sales were boosted by an increase in its store count, which was up 23% year-on-year to 664 outlets.

Like-for-like sales rose 7.6% during the period, the company added. The growth was driven by an increase in transaction size, with basket spend up 9.1%. However, the group witnessed a decrease in the total number of transactions, which was down 1.33%.
