Lactalis has confirmed that it is in negotiations over the acquisition of Russia’s Efremovski combine, located in the Toula region.
“We cannot comment further as nothing has been finalised at this stage,” a Lactalis spokesman told just-food today (22 December).
Lactalis already operates its own plant in Russia, where it produces processed cheese.
Efremovski would be the French group’s first acquisition in Russia and will allow it to enter the hard cheese segment, representing around 65% of the country’s cheese market.
Russian reports have suggested that a deal could be reached by mid-January.
