According to the news service Prime Tass, the upper house of the Russian parliament, The Federation Council, yesterday (17 October) approved a bill that will mean packages containing genetically modified (GM) food must contain information on genetic modification only if the GM content is more than 0.9%.

Current legislation means GM foods must always contain that information, the report noted.

To become law, the bill must be signed by the president.
