The move comes among increasing alarm at the environmental impact of both the legal and illegal trade in sturgeon.

Russia’s State Fisheries Committee has prepared a draft resolution to be signed by President Vladimir Putin enforcing measures for the state regulation of sturgeon. The President has previously described such a move as “a sound idea”.
