Wimm-Bill-Dann Foods, Russia’s leading dairy company, is eyeing growth in the fruit and vegetable-based baby food category with the opening of a new factory.

The group is already a leading producer of children’s dairy products. The company now hopes that by expanding its production capabilities it will be able to leverage its Agusha brand and increase its share of Russian baby food sales.

“The Kursk plant is a major step forward for Agusha, as it provides a very significant expansion of our capabilities in two key categories – juice and puree,” said Gary Sobel, the head of Wimm-Bill-Dann’s Baby Food business unit.

The Agusha fruit-based baby foods were developed in partnership with the Institute of Nutrition of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences and have been formulated to meet children’s specific nutritional requirements.

The company operates its own fruit orchards in Kursk region where it grows apples, cherries, pears and plums. In the next few years, the group said these orchids will become a primary source of raw materials for the production of fruit juices and purees for children under the Agusha brand.
